On June 27th, Gina Häußge, the developer behind OctoPrint, informed us of an incident involving the OctoPrint usage stats. Gina had observed that the stats were being manipulated to boost OctoEverywhere’s rankings.
What Happened
We took the report very seriously and quickly started an investigation. Using private community channels, we determined a community member was responsible for manipulating the OctoPrint stats. We had a private conversation with the individual, who didn’t realize the impact they were having but apologized and promised never to do it again.
We want to make it clear that this kind of behavior is unacceptable and unfit for a community like OctoEverywhere or OctoPrint. The maker community is a place to unite, share, build, and work together. Actions like these undermine that trust, which is unacceptable.
Making It Right
OctoEverywhere wants to make this right for everyone in our communities. Anyone who feels wronged by this incident can contact us directly using the support system on the OctoEverywhere website. We will work with you to make it right.
Preventing It From Happening Again
We greatly respect Gina, OctoPrint, and the other developers who work tirelessly on the OctoPrint project. It greatly upsets us that this happened, and we would like to sincerely apologize to them. OctoEverywhere is working with Gina and the OctoPrint team to find ways to help contribute to the OctoPrint project and ensure this never happens again.
