Many modern 3D printers allow SSH access. SSH is a computer protocol that lets a remote device connect to your 3D printer and interact with its operating system. There are many reasons to SSH into your 3D printer, including changing the configuration script, updating software like Klipper or Moonraker, or installing plugins like OctoEverywhere. This guide includes all you need to know to SSH into your printer using MobaXterm to get command-line control and file system access.
Download & Install MobaXterm
MobaXterm is free for home users to use. You can download MobaXterm using the button below.
If you’re using a Mac or Linux operating system, your operating system has a built-in terminal capable of making SSH connections, so you don’t need MobaXterm!
SSH Into Your 3D Printer With MobaXterm
Open MobaXterm and click the Sessions icon.

Next, choose SSH

Enter the SSH connection details for your 3D printer. If you don’t know the IP address, username, or password, search for a guide on our blog for your specific 3D printer!
- In the
Remote hosttext box, enter your 3D printer’s IP address. - Check the
Specify usernamecheck box - In the
Specify usernametext box, enter the SSH user name.

If you get a prompt about trusting the remote host, accept it.

Enter the SSH password for your 3D printer.

Using MobaXterm For Commands & File System Access
You’re now connected to your 3D printer using MobaXterm! The big black text area on the right allows you to run any terminal command. The menu on the left will enable you to access the whole file system, which is a great way to update configuration files or grab logs.
