Free Remote Access & Advanced AI For The Creality K2 Plus

Creality K2 Plus Free Remote Access From OctoEverywhere

The Creality K2 Plus, with or without the CFS, is a killer 3D printer for beginners or experts. The K2’s 350x350x350mm print volume, next-gen extruder, actively headed chamber, AI cameras, and Matrix frame make the Creality K2 a reliable and fast 3D printing choice. But did you know you can level up your Creality K2 Plus with free and unlimited remote access, advanced AI print failure detection, print notifications, and more?

It’s true! OctoEverywhere.com empowers the worldwide maker community with free and unlimited remote access to their K2 web portal, next-gen AI failure detection, real-time notifications, and so much more.

The best part? It only takes 60 seconds to set up! Start now!

Step 1 – Enable SSH Root Access

SSH, or Secure Shell, is disabled by default on the Creality K2 Plus. SSH is a standard tool for accessing and controlling your K2 from another computer. Think of it like a local remote desktop for your K2.

Enabling SSH and getting the root password on the Creality K2 Plus is easy:

  • From the printer’s display home screen, tap the “gear” icon to enter settings.
  • Tap “Root account information”

You will see a warning about the power of root access. But don’t worry; our guide will walk you through the required steps, and there’s no risk to your Creality K2 Plus.

Scroll the text to the bottom, check the box, and press “Next Step.” You will then see the SSH root login information for the Creality K2 Plus. The default user name is root, and the password is creality_2024.

Step 2 – Find Your Creality K2 Plus IP Address

Each device on your home network has a unique IP address that allows it to communicate with other devices. To SSH into your Creality K2 Plus, you will need to find the IP address of your K2.

  • From the printer’s display home screen, tap the “gear” icon to enter settings.
  • Select the “Network” tab at the top of the screen.
  • If your printer is connected via WiFi, the IP address will be shown under your network name.
  • If your printer is connected via Ethernet, tap the arrow next to the word “Connected”, the IP address will be listed on the following screen.
  • Write down the IP address; you need it in the next step.

Step 3 – SSH Into Your Creality K2 Plus

You will need to use a terminal, such as MobaXterm, on Windows or the Terminal app on a Mac. If you need help downloading and using MobaXterm, here is an excellent guide.

When you have selected a terminal, log into your K2 Plus using this command:

ssh root@<your-k2-ip>

For example, if the IP address of your K2 Plus is 192.168.1.23, use:

ssh root@192.168.1.23

You will be prompted for the password you got when you enabled root SSH access. Enter: creality_2024

You did it! You now have a remote terminal open to your Creality K2 Plus logged in as the root user!

Step 4 – Install The K2-Improvements Scripts

The K2 runs Creailty OS, which is based on a slimmed-down operation system called OpenWRT. By default, OpenWRT doesn’t include the basic programs required to install plugins on the K2, so we need to install them.

Luckily, user jamincollins has created a bootstrap script on GitHub called k2-improvements. Using these scripts, we can quickly add the required basic programs to the K2. Here’s how to install the k2-improvements scripts for the Creality K2:

  • Download the latest bootstrap.zip file from the GitHub release page:
  • Unzip the bootstrap.zip file into a folder.
  • Open a browser and use your K2’s IP address to open the Fluidd web interface:
  • In Fluidd, select the {...} “Configuation” icon in the left horizontal icon menu.
  • In the “Configuration Files” section, use the + icon to open the file picker.
  • In the file picker, select the folder named boostrap from the bootstrap.zip output.
    • Make sure you select the folder, which will upload all of its contents. The bootstrap folder you want to select should contain the boostrap.sh file and other folders.
  • SSH into your K2 using step 3’s instructions above.
  • Paste the following command in your SSH window:
    • sh /mnt/UDISK/printer_data/config/bootstrap/bootstrap.sh
  • When the script is complete, close your SSH window, re-open it, and SSH back into your K2 printer.

You now have all the essential dependencies for installing Creality K2 plugins!

Step 5 – Install The OctoEverywhere Plugin For Remote Access

Run the following commands in the remote terminal to install the OctoEverywhere plugin for the Creality K2:

curl -sL https://oe.ink/k2.sh -o ./tmp.sh && sh ./tmp.sh

This will download the OctoEverywhere installer script into a temporary file named tmp.sh and then execute it. The installer will handle the rest for you, download the required packages, configure the plugin for your K2, and help you link the plugin to your OctoEverywhere account.

Done! 🚀
