Must Have OctoPrint Plugins – Updated 2024

Here are five of the best extensions for OctoPrint to help make your life a little easier when remotely running or tuning your printer!

Easy Servo

Easy servo is one of (if not the best) plugins for Octoprint. It allows gimble style control (i.e., servos to control the rotation of the X and Y axis) for a camera! It utilizes the Raspberry Pi GPIO pins for control, but the servo needs an external power supply.

Pros

  • Allows you to move your camera to monitor multiple printers off on camera
  • This can be done with any camera or any Raspberry PI
  • It is easy and use once set up
  • Free

Cons

  • Only allows for set degree movements (i.e. move 90 degrees, not fluid camera motion)
  • The servo needs an external power supply
  • Wiring can prove challenging

Cancel Object

This plugin does exactly what it says: it allows you to cancel individual objects during a print. This is especially useful if one part fails but the others continue to print well!

Pros

  • Really easy to set up and use (worked first try for me!)
  • Works really well
  • Minimal Delay between cancelation and the printer actually stopping printing that object.
  • Free

Cons

  • There is no visualization of what you are canceling on the bed (it only gives you a list of objects to cancel).

OctoKlipper – Klipper For OctoPrint

OctoKlipper is a really good software if you want to further tune your printers, rather than just remotely starting and monitoring prints! It allows you to tune your printer speed, acceleration, jerk, and many other things!

Pros

  • Allows for vast amounts of tuning options
  • Easy to install and use
  • Has a minimal effect on the remote printing aspect of Octoprint
  • Free

Cons

  • It can make your Pi heat up more
  • Your board needs to have Klipper installed on it

OctoEverywhere

OctoEverywhere is the main remote connection I use to monitor my printers. It is intuitive, simple, and speedy. It also offers free AI failure detection, which, rather than stopping your print, pauses it, allowing you to resume the print if the AI is not right!

Pros

  • Free & unlimited remote access
  • Free & unlimited AI print failure detection
  • Speedy
  • Intuitive
  • Easy Installation and connection
  • The free plan limit has a 500MB download limit (over a 3-day print job!)

Cons

  • The free plan has a download limit
  • The free plan also has a stream time limit

Polar Cloud

Polar Cloud is good software for remotely monitoring your printers and continuing manufacturing. This site is also designed for schools, as it allows students to upload their files to the cloud—the cloud does the rest for you! It also boasts a “print lineup,” enabling printers to print files automatically one after the other.

Pros

  • Allows for easy manufacturing of custom parts
  • It can be used with multiple printers (only when paid for)
  • Easy to use

Cons

  • Requires Payment
  • Minimal free features
  • Slowly becoming outdated

These are some of my favorite plugins or remote tunnels into OctoPrint. Whether you use them or not is up to you, but hopefully, this helps provide some information on the plugins you were looking at or gives you an entirely new plugin to install and mess around with! Remember, some plugins may mess up your OctoPrint system or printer if not installed properly, so using these is at your own risk!
